Designing for the lifespan.
Our research focuses on critical life transitions, supporting people with disabilities through education, employment, and autonomy.
Designing Technology for Life’s Critical Transitions
The Center for Community-Driven Assistive Technologies explores novel ways to improve the lives of people with disabilities by focusing on moments of transition that pose particular risks. From early childhood through adulthood and aging, our research on life transitions provides the scaffolding for successful navigation of life’s major shifts.
- Supporting Education & Employment: We leverage emerging technologies to bridge the gap between secondary school and post-secondary adult life, ensuring youth with disabilities can access meaningful education and employment opportunities.
- School-to-Life Bridges: Our work includes real-world implementations, such as asynchronous online parent training programs that support students with emotional and behavioral disorders and their families through critical school-to-life transitions.
- A Lifespan Commitment: Beyond the transition to adulthood, CDAT is expanding its focus to support early childhood school entry and the transition to aging in place and retirement.
